Disconnected

I gathered with a few friends to make a prototype of an action-adventure title. We took some gameplay elements from Legend of Zelda: Four Swords + FF7: Remake and tried to make it a little more unique.

On this page, you’ll see what we were able to create within roughly four weeks.

Level Breakdown

We only wanted to focus on making a vertical game slice within a few weeks. We did a rough high-level view of what the beginning and end of the game would consist of.

Then we chose what we could reasonably do within 1-2 weeks.

World Blockout

The images on the right are the paper blockouts on how the pacing and world should go. For the amount of time allocated to spend on this playable, we focused only on what we called “Old Town.”

 

Old Town Area

After finding some newly found help, our protagonist and their companions have been asked to help to turn the power back on at the power plant. Which is located in the northeast.

This ‘story framework’ was used to help the level design. With this, I made a blockout so we could have a playground to work with.

The outside area is designed to help give some room for the player to introduce and practice their abilities.

 

Power Plant

The power plant is supposed to be the main POI within the area of the Old Town. The design for how people got their power is under the assumption that the people got their power from a dam.

The layout for the interior was to have this grand hall that showed that the main power supplies within the area were not moving and shut off completely.

To turn the power back on, the player has to search for three switches to bring the power plant back online. After finding these switches, the player will have to fight off a boss.

Originally we planned to have a new ability unlock within this dungeon. Where the player would unlock a metal roped arrow that they could shoot can help conduct electricity or even connect to bots to be either together to help bring the power plant online. Due to time constraints, we had to cut it!


Additional Features

As mentioned above, there were some images that we want to give the player as they completed quests & dungeons. These abilities are supposed to push the focus between the uniqueness between the three characters to help create combat combos. As well as, to be used for any puzzles found within a dungeon or in the overworld.
